The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy By Douglas Adams

The first book in a series of five, Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is ripe for repetitive reading.

Moments before the Earth is destroyed to make room for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent and his friend, Ford Prefect, manage to escape. Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised "Guide to the Galaxy" has spent the last fifteen years undercover, posing as an out-of-work actor. Together, these two pals stick their thumbs out to the stars for a wild ride through time and space.

Adams is an expert humorist. The dialogue is genius. The plot may be a bit "iffy," but it doesn't matter, as you get wrapped up in the characters and what they are going to say next.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is thick with comedy and a required read for any science fiction fan. Others that will appreciate this novel are those who enjoy absurdist humor, or British comedies such as Monty Python. Once you pick up this first novel in the series, you will want to read the next four.
